Jimmie Johnson won top athlete of the year for 2009 and rightfully deserves so. In a year were Tiger Woods failed to win majors and the Kobe Bryant wins a championship but has all the talent around him and the same goes for the Yankees. Johnson broke the record for Nascar with 4 consecutive championships. Johnson recived 42 first place votes.
Serena Williams recieved the AP 2009 female thlete of the year award even after her rant at the line judge in the U.S. Open. Williams recieved 66 of the 180 first place votes and coasted to female athlete of the year.
